I’m coming out of the mess today and I see this guy playing basketball outside on this makeshift court. He seemed so alive. I couldn’t see his face but then he turned and saw me looking at him. It was Nathan. I think my face blushed but he couldn’t see. He motions me to him so I went over and we start talking. And all of a sudden I realize I’m not listening to what he’s saying, I’m just looking in his eyes. I snap out of it. And he says something I’ll never forget. He said, “I know what it’s like to have to do your job while people around you are dying.” I didn’t know what to say. But I didn’t wanna leave. At that moment for the first time here, I didn’t feel alone. The selection process is over. They selected Oster. We’ve had our…run ins, but nobody deserves what goes on in that lab. But it’s done. And I didn’t have anything to do with it. Thank the Lord for small blessings.
